Made from recycled tarps from Brazillian cargo trucks used for transporting goods, the Real Deal Recycled Tarp Hats are handcrafted by Brazilian villagers. Each hat is unique and has a different story to tell. Some hats feature patches, stitching, different colors, faded and frayed parts, and random Portuguese writings.
The tarps that these hats are made out of have survived grueling journeys through equatorial Brazil, been pummeled with Amazon rains, and endured intense sunlight so they are able to handle pretty much anything you can toss at it. The makers of the Real Deal tested out their hat by repeatedly running it over with a car (a Prius of course) and were able to simply fold the flattened hat back into its original shape (note they also ran it over with a Hummer just for fun).
I didn’t run mine over with my Subaru but I did just throw it in the car and pile all my camping equipment right on top of it. It was pretty sweet to not have to worry about crushing a hat and being able to jam it and squish it in anywhere. I have to admit that I did jump on it to see if I could get it back into its original shape and yup no problem with that.
I really like the look – heck it was cool enough to be worn by Woody Harrelson in Zombieland. The two samples I received had two totally different styles and I can’t decide which one I like better. The brim is totally shapeable so you can change the look of your hat based on your mood or adventure. Maybe you just want to rock it Indian Jones style indefinitely – that’s up to you.

I am giving the Real Deal Brazil Recycled Tarp Hat a 10 out of 10 simply on style and the fact that the hats are made out of virtually indestructible recycled canvas tarps that would have normally been tossed into the trash.
