Chaco Paradox Shoes – A more protective Chaco

If you are a long standing fan of all things Chaco, but need a sandal that offers up a little more protection, then the Chaco Paradox Shoes might just be what you are after. Ok, so the Chaco Paradox Shoes isn’t actually a sandal, but rather Chacos answer to those who want a water shoe that has the protection of a Keen, but the quality of a Chaco. So for those of you who like the idea of a “sandal” that is designed to take on a larger variety of terrain and still keep you protected, then you may want to look into the Chaco Paradox Shoes.

One of the first things you are bound to notice about the Chaco Paradox Shoes is that they are primarily made up of the same material that the straps of the Chaco sandals are made up of. Considering how strong and durable the the sandals are, this is great news. This is especially great considering how well the Chaco sandals manage to keep stink to a minimum. If there is one thing I have noticed about Keens is that they are horrible about smelling to high heaven even though they have that stuff that’s supposed to help keep it under control.

One thing that I was very dissapointed to see on the Chaco Paradox Shoes is that they don’t have the same sole as the Chaco sandals. Being that the sole of the Chaco sandals is what inspired me to be come a life long customer, I am a little upset the Chaco Paradox Shoes doesn’t have them. I can’t vouch for how well the soles of the Chaco Paradox Shoes hold up in comparison top that of the Chaco sandals. But, if they do manage to hold up as well, then the Chaco Paradox Shoes should be a pretty solid buy.

The quick & dirty:

Where you can get one:
Amazon.com: $109

Why they rock:

  • Polyester webbing and elastic straps are woven together, offering a personalized fit to the uppers; synthetic leather sidewalls and toe bumpers provide protection
  • Instep straps adjust with a ladderlock buckle in the typical Chaco fashion; heel loops aid entry and exit
  • Heel pockets, collars and tongues are lined with soft synthetic suede for next-to-skin comfort
  • Chaco BioCentric footbeds and EVA/memory foam midsoles deliver pronation control and lateral stability for a well-supported, comfortable stride
  • Supportive nylon shanks provide torsional stability and protection from uneven terrain
  • Nonmarking, Getagrip high-friction rubber outsoles offer excellent traction and are composed of 25% recycled rubber

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 8 out of 10

Im not really big into the whole water shoe thing. I am more of a sandal kind of guy, but having said that, the Chaco Paradox Shoes look pretty solid. Other than the fact that the Chaco Paradox Shoes don’t use the same awesome sole and grip as the Chaco sandals I think that they are just as impressive. If you find yourself in the need for a pair of water shoes, check out the Chaco Paradox Shoes.
