REI Lightweight Compression Stuff Sack

REI Lightweight Compression Sack – compacts your sleeping bag or other gear

If you are tight on space, compression sacks will be your new favorite travel companion. Compression sacks work just like regular stuff sacks, except that once you’ve got your stuff packed in you cinch down on the straps to get rid of all the air, which compresses down your sack so it takes up the minimum amount of space.

The REI Lightweight Compression Sack is a pretty basic compression sack. Four compression straps offer even pressure when you compress the bag so you get the smallest possible pack. A drawcord cinch secures contents and both top and bottom caps help you compress large loads.

Made from a water-resistant and durable ripstop nylon fabric, the compression sack will hold up to many adventures. The sack is available in multiple sizes from 6 to 21 liters so you can choose the best size to fit the gear you want to carry. If you’re looking for a totally waterproof compression sack, check out the Sea to Summit eVent Compression Sack.

The quick & dirty:
Where you can find one:
REI: $19.50 – $24.50

Why they rock:

  • Silicone-impregnated ripstop nylon fabric is lightweight, durable and water resistant
  • Double layered in critical areas for reinforcement; cord-opening grommets enhance durability
  • Drawcord opening cinches tight to secure contents
  • 4 compression straps provide even pressure when expelling air, allowing sack to be used to maximum capacity
  • Top and bottom caps provide a wide range of compression for bulky loads
  • Bottom haul handle offers convenience in carrying and removing your stuffed gear

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 10 out of 10

Compression sacks are great for packing your clothing and your sleeping bag. I can compress my sleeping bag to about a third of its size with one of these compression sacks. Only downside of compression sacks is that your clothes can get all wrinkly. If you are looking for some way to organize your clothing and maximize space, but you are worried about wrinkles you should look into packing cubes and packing folders.
