Red by Burton Hi-Fi Ski and Snowboard Helmet
Red by Burton Hi-Fi Helmet—a super lightweight helmet for riders who hate helmets (i.e. a helmet that won’t make you feel like you’re wearing a bowling ball on your head)
As a former ski racer, I have worn a lot of ski helmets in my day. I have also disliked the majority of them. Even with my racing days behind me, I still like to bomb groomers, tackle some pretty difficult backcountry terrain and ski in the trees, all activities which add up to me still needing a helmet to protect my noggin. However, as someone with an especially small head, I always had a lot of trouble finding the right helmet. They always seemed too big, too heavy and too cumbersome. I often felt like a bobble head going down the mountain. And, without a helmet I really liked, I often found myself opting for my hat rather than my detested helmet. After a fall where the back of my ski cut my head open and I bled all over the snow, I realized that wearing a helmet wasn’t just a good idea, but totally necessary. That’s when I discovered the Red Hi-Fi Helmet. This thing is great. Not only is SUPER lightweight, it is also stylish. It’s so lightweight in fact, you can actually forget you are wearing it (the goal).
The Red by Burton Hi-Fi Helmet also fits all different types and shapes of goggles well, and a removable strip of fabric between the helmet rim and your goggles prevents that awkward “gapping effect” so you don’t get a frostbitten forehead. This helmet is so uncumbersome, in fact, you forget you are even wearing it. The shape also gives you a full range of vision, not getting in your way of spotting that bump on the slope. I have never come across a smaller, more compact, more lightweight helmet. You can wear a hat or a face mask with it for particularly cold days and there are removable fleece lined ear flaps that will keep you warm on cold February days, but can also be taken out when you are huffing and puffing up the mountain on a hike. The streamlined shape and Zip Clip ratcheting buckle also gives you a great custom fit that’s easy to buckle up with your gloves on. Plus, with some helmets out there costing nearly $200, this helmet is high quality at an affordable price.

Because I really dislike wearing a helmet, my main criteria when looking for a one was to find one that felt as little like a helmet as possible. That way, I would actually wear it instead of leaving in the car and opting for my hat instead. The Red by Burton Hi-Fi helmet doesn’t disappoint. It’s so lightweight you forget you have it on. It also keeps your head warm, fits well with goggles, is easy to buckle up with gloves on and looks great. The price is also great on this helmet, as it’s a lot cheaper than a lot of other high quality, lightweight helmets out there and hovers around $100. Oh, and this helmet is also guaranteed to keep you head safe!
