Patagonia R4 Jacket – A rival to the North Face Denali Pro

Like the features and craftsmanship of the North Face Denali Pro, but want something a little more warm and fuzzy? Well, the Patagonia R4 Jacket can offer you just that. Because it is made by Patagonia, you know the quality of craftsmanship and technology involved is just as good, if not better, than that of the North Face Denali Pro. But, with the Patagonia R4 Jacket you get a fleece that might be one of the softest things you have ever put on.

So, just what is it that makes the Patagonia R4 Jacket so special? Well, as you can tell, I am quite fond of the material that makes up the Patagonia R4 Jacket. The jacket is made up of a velour fleece that is not only soft to the touch, but strikingly warm as well. Inside of the jacket you will find a warm R4 grid fleece.

The combination of warm fleece isn’t the only thing the Patagonia R4 Jacket has going on to keep you warm. In between the two layers of fleece, you will find a combination of windproof Polartec and a Windbloc laminate. Combine these windproof materials with the warmth of the R4 fleece and you have one warm and comfortable fleece jacket.

The quick & dirty:

Where you can get one:
Amazon: $200

Why they rock:

  • Jacket keeps you mobile and toasty and excels alone or under a shell
  • Features a velour fleece face and a warm R2 grid-fleece interior, and a layer of stretchy windproof Polartec® Windbloc® laminate sandwiched in between
  • Keep cold air out—Supplexˊ nylon windflap backs the front zipper; chin guard protects against abrasion
  • Seamless shoulders provide pack-wearing comfort
  • Elasticized cuffs and drawcord hem
  • Includes 2 handwarmer pockets and 1 chest pocket; all have hidden zippers
  • Relaxed fit ensures freedom of movement

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 10 out of 10
With so many great features and such great craftsmanship, its no wonder many serious outdoorsmen prefer the Patagonia R4 Jacket. The only down side to the Patagonia R4 Jacket though is its price tag. At $200+ it is a pretty expensive fleece jacket, but none the less, well worth it.
