MSR Hubba Hubba 2-Person Tent

MSR Hubba Hubba – lightweight backpacking tent with generous space and durable design

At only 4 pounds, the Hubba Hubba by MSR is a fabulous lightweight tent for backpackers and minimalist travelers.  Pack this popular freestanding, 2-person, 3-season tent when you need a generous amount of space without having to haul a heavy load.

The Hubba Hubba’s latest model features an all-new pole-hub system that provides increased strength and durability without sacrificing weight.  Two doors makes it easy to get in and out plus having your own entrance keeps you from having to roll over your companion for a middle of the night bathroom run.

Two vestibules provide gear storage for each occupant while still leaving room for a sheltered food prep area if bum weather keeps you confined to the tent.  A special dry-entry design keeps water from dripping in the tent even if the doors are opened, allowing for extra ventilation during stormy weather.

The Hubba Hubba exudes nothing but quality from its carefully taped seams to its virtually unbendable ultralight tent stakes – no wonder the Hubba Hubba is MSR’s best-selling two-person tent.

The quick & dirty:
Where you can find one:
REI: $329

Why they rock:

  • Weight of tent, rainfly, and poles is just over 4 pounds
  • Quick and easy set up
  • Innovative pole design makes for a roomy interior
  • Two vestibule design provides gear storage and food-prep area for each occupant
  • Dry-entry design keeps water from dripping into tent even when doors are opened in rainy weather
  • Reduce weight by creating a minimalist shelter with just the rainfly, footprint (sold separately), and poles.

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 9 out of 10

The Hubba Hubba is one of the lightest freestanding tents on the market and I personally love the all mesh design.  Without the rainfly on you have perfect views of the stars from you sleeping bag.

Looking for a more affordable 2-person backpacking tent?  REI’s Half Dome 2 has similar features and is comparable in size to the Hubba Hubba but at nearly half the cost.  The Half Dome is a pound heavier than the Hubba Hubba, but if money were not a concern I would choose the Hubba Hubba over the Half Dome because of the dry-entry design and its lighter weight.  If you’re looking for an even lighter weight tent, check out MSR’s Hubba Hubba HP.
