Marmot EOS 1P

marmot-eos.bmpMarmot EOS 1P – Gives you more room with less weight.

One person tents are great fort the solo hiker. Problem is, many of the solo tents on the market are lacking two key elements in their design. First, many of them don’t have a vestibule. You sure cant fit your gear inside the tent, so what are you supposed to do? Second, not all solo tents are easy to setup by your self.

I think some of solo tent designers out there forgot that there would only be one person setting up the tent. I have setup my fair share of solo tents that were nothing short of a nightmare to setup. The Marmot EOS 1P is anything but. It uses a unique 1 pole system so that you can not only set you tent up by yourself, you can also do it fast.

The Marmot EOS 1P also comes with a nice sized vestibule for the solo hiker. For all that gear that you need to have close at hand, there are several pockets inside to keep you organized. There are also a number of small features that really make the Marmot EOS 1P stand out, such as; locking pole tips, jingle free nylon zipper pulls, and ample head space.

The quick & dirty:

Where you can get one:
Backcountry: $224

Why the rock:

  • Freestanding
  • 1 pole setup
  • DAC Featherlite poles
  • Interior height: 39 inches
  • Weight: 2 pounds 14 ounces

Why it bites:

  • Needs more guy points for fly
  • Not tall enough for big backpackers

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 9 out of 10

Although I have only had the opportunity to test this tent out in the stores, the Marmot EOS 1P is a very promising solo tent. There are many more features that I could ask for or suggest in a solo tent of this quality. I may be picking up a Marmot EOS 1P very soon.
