If you are looking for a good water purification unit to take with on the occasional backpacking trip or to countries with a less than reliable water source, the First Need Deluxe Water Purifier is a great choice. It may not be the lightest or most technologically advance water purifier out there, but for the price the First Need Deluxe Water Purifier is hard to beat.

The First Need Deluxe Water Purifier is the only non-chemical water purifier certified to the EPA guidelines for microbiological purifiers. The First Need Deluxe Water Purifier protects against bacteria’s, cysts, viruses, Cryptosporida, and Giardia among others.

Easy to clean in the backcountry, the First Need Deluxe Water Purifier is fully backwashable. There is no brushing, scrapping, or any of that nonsense. You can directly connect the First Need Deluxe Water Purifier to many Nalgene and bike water bottle for direct filtration.

A little large for the serious backpacker

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 7 out of 10

While the First Need Deluxe Water Purifier is great, I probably wouldn’t recommend it to the serious backpackers. Its rather large and bulky compared to other units. However, its great for the recreational backpacker or long term camper who doesn’t want to spend a huge chunk of change on a great water purifier.
