Best Yoga Bags and Accessories for Travel

Maybe you’re headed to a yoga retreat or maybe you use yoga to ease the stress of traveling – either way there are plenty of useful travel yoga accessories on the market. Your everyday yoga mat is probably too heavy and bulky for traveling so you will first want to pick up a travel yoga mat. Look for an eco-friendly yoga mat that is both lightweight and compact.

Once you have a lightweight travel mat, you might like a nice travel bag to tote around all your yoga gear. Dakine and Gaiam make some great bags that have a special compartment for your yoga mat and plenty of room for a change of clothes and all your yoga accessories like straps and blocks. If you want to just stash your mat into your regular carry-on consider picking up some yoga straps to carry your mat around once you’re at your destination.

If you want to go without the mat all together consider giving some super sticky yoga gloves or socks a try. Are you frequently stressed out or tense from travel? I highly recommend picking up a copy of Travel Yoga, this book has plenty of ideas for staying relaxed and stress-free when traveling by plane, train, or automobile.

Dakine Girl’s Sarita Yoga Bag

The Dakine Girl’s Sarita Yoga Bag is a great travel yoga bag whether you’re headed to the gym or on a cross-country adventure. There’s a nifty pouch on the back to store your yoga mat and a side pocket for your water bottle. The bag is large enough for a change of clothes, some flip-flops, shower necessities, and your other yoga accessories without a lot of bulk. Offered in many styling colors and patterns, the Sarita is as functional as it is cute.

Gaiam Metro Gym Bag

If you’re looking for a hip and versatile yoga bag for traveling, the Gaiam Metro Gym Bag carries everything you need for your yoga practice and more. An inner zip pocket stores your wallet and keys, the main compartment is large enough for a change of clothes and your yoga accessories, a large outer pocket keeps your snacks and phone within reach, and a cinch cord on the bottom of the bag secures your yoga mat. The bag is also versatile enough to use as an airplane carry-on.

Yoga Carrying Straps

Many companies make simple yoga harness carrying straps that are both reasonably priced and strong and durable. The straps simply loop around your mat and secure using buckles or fasteners so you can comfortably carry your yoga mat over your shoulder. The YogaAccessories Yoga Mat Harness Strap fits any mat up to a quarter inch thick and has two quick release buckles that wrap around your mat.

Prana Yoga Mat Holder

Prana makes over the shoulder yoga bags that are great for biking or walking to the yoga studio. The Prana Yoga Mat Holder is lightweight with a mesh bottom panel and a drawcord closure. A front pocket is great for stashing your keys and phone. The shoulder strap is adjustable so you can fit it just perfect.

Super Grippy Gloves and Socks

If you don’t want to bother carrying a yoga mat when you travel, I highly recommend picking up some grippy gloves and socks. Gaiam’s Super Grippy Gloves are all grip and no slip. The finger and palm traction makes every surface you touch non-slip. The Gaiam Nonslip Yoga Socks do the same thing for your feet. Grippers on your soles and toes give you the feeling that you are practicing on your yoga mat even when you’re not.

Travel Yoga: Stretches for Planes, Trains, Automobiles, and More!

This super cute and helpful book is a godsend for frequent travelers. Travel Yoga is filled with tips for relaxing and peaceful travels from stress-free packing tips, happy travel philosophies, and suggestions for stretching on the go. Author Darrin Zeer has come up with over 50 techniques for reducing tension and promoting relaxation while traveling.

Best part of the book is the “Quick Help Guide,” you can easily find advice for everything from stiff legs and tight shoulders to handling delays and keeping organized. Plus there is a tear out card in the back outlining stretches for tight spaces.

Wii Fit Travel & Yoga Bag

If your idea of yoga practice is on the Wii, the Wii Fit Travel & Yoga Bag will be perfect for you. Large enough for your yoga mat, Wii Fit bundle, games, remotes, and a change of clothes, the Wii travel bag will allow you to travel with everything you need for your Wii. Plenty of interior pockets hold all your Wii Fit necessities and an outer slot holds your mat. The bag is bulky and a little difficult to carry when full so it is more ideal for car travel than plane travel.
