Exped DownMat 9 Air Pad – down-filled sleeping pad
The ultimate in comfortable sleeping pads, the Exped DownMat 9 Air Pad with Pump is light, warm, and compact for year-round comfort.
The Exped DownMat is unique in that it features a hand pump built into the pad itself. Just place your hands on the pump (2 hand outlines on the back of the pad) and press down and up to inflate. The pad quickly inflates within minutes and is closed off with a low profile valve. To deflate, just open the bottom valve and roll the pad up to release the air.
At a cost of $149, the Exped DownMat is not for the casual camper. The sleeping pad is filled with 700-fill-power goose down, which provides excellent insulation and minimizes heat loss. The sleeping pad’s superior warmth makes it ideal for winter backpacking adventures as well as year-round camping trips.
The thick cushion of the pad also provides comfort on uneven ground plus it packs down smaller than other insulated pads so it takes up less room in your pack. An abrasion resistant polyester shell is durable, airtight, and humidity resistant and the seams are welded for extreme durability.
The quick & dirty:
Where you can find on:
Why they rock:
- Ingenious integrated hand pump is built into pad chamber; protects down from moisture-induced funk caused by breath inflation
- 700-fill-power goose down provides unmatched warmth-to-weight ratio for a restful night’s sleep
- UV- and abrasion-resistant polyester fabric is slip-proof and air-tight
- Baffle chambers prevent cold spots; welded, dual valves allow for maximum airflow
Seat-of-the-pants rating: 8 out of 10
The pump get feel a little awkward at first but once you get the hang of it you can fill up the pad in just minutes. The pad feels amazing plus you can easily adjust the air pressure to get the most comfortable level. Still don’t think I could ever shell out that kind of money on a sleeping pad. These types of pad are still pretty new so I am hoping the price eventually comes down.
