Zamberlan 144 Crest GT – Great shoes for travelers and backpackers.

Before my last trip to Central America, I was on the lookout for a good pair of trail shoes. Durring my search, I ran across an Italian company called Zamberlan. I searched through their trail shoes and found one that sounded perfect for my needs. The Zamberlan 144 Crest GT is advertised as:

Designed as an approach shoe, the 144 Crest GT is also ideal for lightweight hiking, fast packing, as well as for adventure travel and every day use.

After a months worth of wearing the Zamberlan 144 Crest GT in a number of environments and terrain, Im here to tell you that the above description is right on the money. I wore the Zamberlan 144 Crest GT as my everyday shoe, to hike up rough volcano mountain sides, around slick rock river beds, and much more.

Thanks to the durrable split leather uppers and heel and toe gaurd, the Zamberlan 144 Crest GT was well protected from the rough terrain of the rain forest. The waterproof Gore-Tex emebrane and gusseted touge also helped to keep my dry in the damp climate, but still breathe nicely.

The quick & dirty:

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 9 out of 10

I was really quite impressed with the performance and quality of the Zamberlan 144 Crest GT. My only gripes about the Zamberlan 144 Crest GT are very small and hardly drawbacks. One is that I feel the need to point out that these shoes require a very extended break in period. The other is that I was disappointed with the cushioning of the insole. I went out and bought some extra insole and the shoes fit like a dream.
