I’m not sure if some of us travelers like to fancy ourselves National Geographic photographers, or if we just like capturing that perfect shot while traveling and seeing some of the world’s most spectacular scenery, but when I’m traveling with my camera I always find myself running into the same problem. How do I keep my camera dry and safe, but still have it easily accessible so I don’t miss a great shot? From backpacking through Panama when torrential rainstorms would sometimes come out of nowhere, to sailing on a catamaran in Hawaii to hiking in the Rockies, I always manage to find myself in some situations where I’d rather not subject my camera to the elements. I mean, I’m young, I’m poor and I like to spend all of my money on traveling, so the idea of ruining the camera I just emptied my bank account for isn’t really something I’m trying to do. At the same time, I bought the camera for a reason—to take great pictures during that hike in the jungle or that sail on the catamaran. So, a solution is needed. I recently came across a camera bag that I think could solve my problems of wanting to keep my camera safe and dry while still making easy to access.

I can easily recall an instance this summer when I would have loved to have owned this bag. We were motoring back in a dug out canoe called a kayuka in the San Blas Islands off the coast of Panama when an intense storm blew in. The rain was down pouring, waves were splashing into the boat and everything could not have been wetter. Needless to say, keeping my camera dry during this storm proved to be quite the challenge. This bag is the best of the best. It’ll keep you camera dry, protecting it from both the elements and your own clumsiness all while strapping on comfortably to your back. While this thing looks like it would work fantastically, it is also not cheap (though when it comes to gear the good stuff rarely is). You for sure will love this camera bag if you are adventurous traveler and photographer, but you’ll also have to shell out $150 to get it. However, if you plan on kayacking with this thing, being out in harsh weather conditions or anywhere near a boat or the ocean, the investment in this bag could keep you from having to replaced a ruined (and much more expensive) camera. Looks like a sound investment to me.
