Samsung NC10 Netbook

Samsung NC10–Standing just a bit taller than most netbooks

With the arrival of the first compact, budget laptop the ASUS Eee PC, the entire notebook industry seemed to have turned on its head. With its 7 inch screen and price coming in at around $300, there was a sudden scramble by competitors to come out with their own versions of these mini notebooks, also known as netbooks.

However, in the world of netbooks (like with most things), all mini computers were not created equal—and the new Samsung answer to the tiny PCs proves that this is most definitely true. Although the Samsung model costs a bit more than other netbooks, the NC10 is worth the extra money if you are looking for a still very compact and portable computer without the cramped keyboard and tiny monitor. Enter the NC10, which boasts not only a 10-inch monitor and nearly full-sized keyboard, and has a 6-hour battery life. While many of the specs on this Samsung model may look similar to other netbooks like the Lenovo IdeaPad or the MSI Wind, the Samsung NC10’s excellent battery life (and isn’t great battery life an essential for a computer meant to be used ON THE GO?) and well-poistioned keyboard give it a leg up on its competition. The Samsun NC10 also has an easy-to-use touchpad mouse, a sleek design and a plethora of ports.

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 9 out of 10
The new Samsung NC10 is definitely making for some stiff competition in the world of netbooks these days. The bigger 10-inch screen makes it much easier to see what you are doing and also allows for a more spacious, easy-to-use keyboard. While highly rated Lenovo IdeaPad also comes with integrated Bluetooth, this is not a feature all of the netbooks out on the market have. The downside to the Samsung NC10 is that it may cost you $50-$100 more than some of the other, cheaper models of netbooks on the market—but the sleek design, plethora of ports, bigger screen, Bluetooth integration and better keyboard make it well worth the extra money.
