Manufactured Home That Travels

KITA House Portable PodPull off the plywood around the wheels from your Fleetwood single-wide, and say goodbye to your trailer-trash park. It’s time to trade up and get a KITAhaus.

KITAhouse’s Portable Pod (better change the name before Apple sues you!) will be available in 2007, from Kita Developments in the UK. That’s going to be a rough haul trying getting your trade-in across the Atlantic.

As I see it, one significant flaw to the manufactured home business model is the price. From the picture, this looks smaller than a golf green, and at 50k GBP (that’s almost 93k USD) it puts you into the realm of $198/sf – unheard of for manufactured homes in America. I don’t think too many Eminem-wanna-be’s have that kind of cash laying around without starting a 2nd meth lab.

Oh, by the way that’s for bare-shell one. If you want luxuries like a toilet or heating system, you’ll have to fork out another 25k GBP and wait till mid-2008.

Either way, have your 50% cash deposit ready because it’s due at the time of preorder.
