GoLite Quest Pack

GoLite Quest Pack – Lightwieght weekend backpack.

If you like how roomy and lite the GoLite Jam Pack is but aren’t a fan of the lidless design, than you will probably like the GoLite Quest Pack. This pack has many of the same features as the Jam Pack, but with just a little extra weight. But, because the GoLite Quest Pack is made by GoLIte, you will never even notice those few extra ounces. While technically classified as a weekend pack, the GoLite Quest Pack offers enough room for multi day hikes and even thru-hikers who pack lite.

One small, but cool feature I like on the GoLite Quest Pack is that it can be converted into a day pack. Notice I said the pack gets converted and not the lid like on other packs. This feature is cool because it eliminates the need to buy a daypack. It also means that if you dont mind unpacking your gear, you can have a full sized daypack on multi day hikes instead of a crappy lid waistpack.

The GoLite Quest Pack also offers a wide variety of compression straps on the outside. Not only do these allow to lash on plenty of extra gear, but the can also help you customize your packs shape. When you don’t use all the room provided in the GoLite Quest Pack, you can cinch up the pack into a smaller size to make it more comfortable and better secure your gear.

The quick & dirty:

Why they rock:

  • Top-loading main compartment holds food, clothing, sleeping bag and more; removable top lid features a watertight zippered pocket
  • Large front pocket allows you to stow often-accessed items such as rain jacket, water filter and energy bars
  • Side compression straps with quick-release buckles stabilize both large and small loads
  • Side compression straps release and join to opposite side for carrying a snowboard, snowshoes and other winter gear
  • Features contoured, padded shoulder straps, sternum strap with whistle buckle, and contoured air-channel mesh backpanel that hugs the back
  • Adjustable load-lifter straps and compression-molded hipbelt stabilize the load; 2 gusseted pockets on hipbelt carry small essentials

  • 2 angled mesh side pockets with elastic top openings keep water bottles or energy food within easy reach
  • ComPacktor system reduces pack volume by connecting the fixed compression anchor clips on the bottom of pack—go from peak-bagger to day-tripper
  • Suspension system features a framesheet with 2 adjustable aluminum stays for stability and load-bearing capacity
  • Constructed with polyurethane-coated nylon for durability and light weight

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 8 out of 10

I have always been a fan of the GoLite gear. Some of the packs that focused on super lite hiking were of little interest to me, but the material I have always liked. These packs are just lite. If you have never picked one up, I suggest you do. It is sure to make your pack feel like a ton of bricks. If you want a lite and versitile pack, check out the GoLite Quest Pack.
