Lightweight, roomy (as far as 2-person tents go), and easy to set up, the Eureka! Apex 2 Tent makes a great backpacking tent. This two-pole tent is a breeze to set up and quite a bit roomier than my beloved REI Half-Dome for around the same amount of weight.
Dual twin-track doors are great for ease of entry and for increased air circulation when the windows are zipped open. Demi-vestibules offer each occupant a dry place to store your shoes and other gear and two internal side pockets keep the essentials handy.
The tent comes complete with clips for a gear loft, but the gear loft must be purchased separately. I also recommend a pair of the Sierra Designs Coffee Slings to avoid any tent beverage spillages.
The half moon fly makes the tent a little more vulnerable to inclement weather. With the windows zipped, the tent kept well-protected from the rain, but offered little in terms of ventilation. We woke to much condensation in the tent after a rainy night. That being said, I think the Apex 2 would be a fabulous dry weather backpacking tent since the windows (when open) offer excellent ventilation.
Oh and did I mention that I love the color. Brightly colored tents are great if you ever find yourself in an emergency situation, you can use the tent to attract attention and flag down some help – although there is some evidence that bears are attracted to more brightly colored objects.
